8-31-13 Daily Update (Happy Labor Day)

Parents, 

What a great first week!

Students should be bringing home a few papers completed that were completed in class this week.  Right now we are completing a lot of work together so they can see how I would like things completed.  Next week your child will have some independent graded work. The children are catching on to the classroom routines very well here at school.  Hopefully a good routine is being developed at home as well in terms of homework completion, reading nightly, and getting ready for school.

Reminders:

• A slip about Student Council went home with children who were interested today.  It will need to be signed and returned shortly.
• Student council speeches and elections will be Wednesday

8-30-12 Daily Update

I think I have worked out all of the kinks from the daily updates... I hope.  I have it set now to e-mail everyday student homework and reminders and it will then post my e-mail to the blog auto-magically!  So, from today on you should get just one e-mail a day.  If you have another e-mail address you want added, please do the "Follow by e-mail" on the blog or e-mail me and I'll add you to the list.  Thanks for your patience!

8/29/12 Daily Update

I am still working through some kinks with the classroom update e-mails from the blog.  I discovered yesterday that the default settings were to send out some of the e-mail posts at 1:30 AM the next day...oops.  I have it changed now so it should send out all posts to e-mails between 5:00-7:00 PM each day.  I'll have to see today when they get sent precisely.

Great day of learning today.  We laughed and enjoyed the book Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing together.  We also practiced using our place value sliders to read large numbers.  In science, we learned the difference between Science and magic.  Ask you child about it.

Many students are having difficulty writing their name in cursive.  While cursive is a dying art, it is still required for signatures.  I sent home a sheet for your child to practice his/her signature tonight for homework.

Today was our first "regular" day of instruction.  That is, we had a lesson in each subject.  Today your child met Mrs. Manos, their Social Studies teacher for the first time.  She sent your child with an informational letter about Social Studies.  Students will switch for Social Studies from 2:00-2:40 each day.
