10-31-12 Daily Update (Happy Halloween!)

Parents,

What a fun day of learning we had today!  We began the day by reading some fun Halloween jokes and poems.  Then we practiced our parts for the play "Legend of Sleepy Hollow."

Many students earned prizes and pizza for their excellent first quarter reading.  To keep on pace, students need to be at 10% of their goal by tomorrow to participate in Battleball.

Grade cards went go home with your child today.  Please review these with your child and return the envelope signed tomorrow.  Both 1's and 2's should be considered "good".  A "2" means that your child is near mastery of a skill.  3's and 4's represent areas that your child may need more practice.  Always try to be constructive when talking with your child about his/her grades.  Focus both on the areas your child was successful and areas that they think they can improve.

• Please return grade card envelopes by Thursday, November 1.

10-30-12 Daily Update

Parents,

We completed a fun activity in Science today.  It allowed us to, in the name of science, break a school rule for about 10 minutes.  Ask your child what that school rule was.  Also, ask him/her what we learned from the activity.

Tomorrow is the pizza party for students who earned 100% of the first quarter reading goal.  I will also be awarding AR prizes for students who exceeded certain percentages.

Grade cards will go home tomorrow.  The envelopes should be signed and returned on Thursday.

10-26-12 Daily Updates

Parents,

Ask your child about the owl pellet activity that we completed today.  Students "dissected" the pellet of owl regurgitation (its not as gross as it sounds) and sorted the bones to get a better idea about the animal that an owl ate.  Many students did a great job classifying all of the bones.  If you are brave, you ask your child to sing you the owl pellet song ,too. 

Thank you for all of the yummy treats and treat bag items donated for the Fall party today.  The party committee did a great job organizing activities today. The party was a lot of fun!

10-25 Daily Update

Parents,

Ask your child about the cool owl presentation they watched today from Nature's Nursery.

Tomorrow we dissect owl pellets and have our fall class party.  Any party items need to be brought to school before the party begins at 2:30.

Congratulations!  These students met the goal of mastering addition and subtraction by the end of 1st quarter!  Their next goal is to master multiplication facts.
