1-11-13 Daily Update

Parents,

Thank you.  We had some more snacks and coffee filters brought in today.  Thank you so much to the families that have donated items!

Social Studies.  Your child has a study guide for their test on Tuesday.  Have them start reviewing the vocabulary and concepts this weekend so they don't have to "cram" on Monday night.

Science.  We are studying Matter right now.  This is a chemistry related unit where students learn properties of matter, states of matter, and the differences between physical and chemical changes.

End of 2nd Qu.  This Thursday is the end of the quarter.  Students  will need to reach 100% or higher of their quarterly AR goal in order to earn this quarter's pizza party.  Most, but not all, students have exceeded this goal already.

Parents,

Math. Your child's math homework tonight is 12 two digit times two digit multiplication problems.  Most of the children are doing really well with learning the standard algorithm for multiplication.  There are a few, however, who still need some guidance with this.  I say this so you will know that it is okay with me if you help your child with this homework tonight.  I also gave students the option to check their answers with a calculator if they want to.

Parents,

Thank you! Thank you to several families who donated coffee filters for our snack time.  We probably have about another week's worth of goldfish before we will be out of snacks.

Shoes.  Remind your child that on Gym days (Tues/Wed) and Battleball days (usually Fridays) they need to bring a pair of tennis shoes to school.  Particularly girls are often coming to school with boots or other shoes which are not suited for running in the gym.

1-8-13 Daily Update

Parents,

Snacks.  While we do have a some supply of snacks right now, we are all out of coffee filters which we use to keep the snacks on our desks.  If anyone would like to donate some, it would be really appreciated.

Timeliness.  If you are dropping off your child, please try to have them to school as close to 8:30 as possible.  Some of my students who are dropped off are arriving in the room at 8:45 or later and are missing the 15 minutes of time that other students have to turn in their homework, put up their lunch choice and start their morning work.  As announcements begin at 8:45 I have usually recorded attendance and sent the lunch count down to the office which makes the student even more late as I have to have them report to the office to have them un-marked as being absent.

Powerhouse theme. Our theme this month is healthy eating and exercise.  Each child has an exercise log that can be used to record physical activity of any kind.  Today we exercised by playing "Just Dance" in the classroom to get moving and to raise our heart rates a little bit.

Whitehouse Primary Night.  Tonight is a special promotion for Whitehouse Primary for our high scholl varsity basketball.  Whitehouse students can get in for free to tonight's games at the high school.  Each student also receives a free t-shirt.

Happy 2013, everyone!  

AR.  Most students did a great job reading over the break.  Nearly all of the students had an AR test to take when they arrived this morning. Thank you for continuing to encourage this positive habit each night at home.  We are in the home stretch of the quarter on January 17th.  Most students have already blown by their quarterly reading goals for AR.  There are still a few students who will need to finish strong to earn the pizza party reward this quarter.  Congrats to these awesome readers who have already met this goal!
