Fwd:

Parents,

One things I forgot to do on the last day of school was to empty out our "June box"  full of items confiscated because they were brought to school and played with in class.  If you or your child recognizes any of these items and wants them back, I will have them in the office where they can be picked up.  Any items not collected will go in my prize box next year!

6-4-13 Daily Update - Last day of school :0(

Parents and students,

Thank you for a great school year.  I told the students today that once they have been in my classroom, they are like family to me and they are always welcome in my classroom.  Please be sure to have your child share their future successes with me as they grow and move through school.  I hope you all have a terrific summer.

Parents,

Bike Hike. We had a blast at Bike Hike today!  I'd write more about it, but to be honest - I'm exhausted!  Ask your child about all of the neat things we did!  If I get time I'll post some of the pictures to the class website this weekend.

Pizza Party.  Our last pizza party is Monday.  This was a tough one to earn this quarter.  I required:

-100% or more of point goal (everyone earned this)
-85% or better on comprehension
-Above book level goal.

Congrats to these students who earned this:

Logan
Chloe
Emily
Davin
Hannah
Evan
Andrew
Jordon
Allison
Paul
Quinn

Aiden's party is tonight.  "My son Aiden Smith is in Mr. Pransky's class this year and we have always invited our children's class to a large 'end of school year party' at our home (not a birthday party, just a celebration). Since it is Aiden's last year in Whitehouse Primary, he would like to invite the entire grade. Please email or call anytime if you have questions, and we hope to see you Friday!"

Fwd: End of Year Party.pdf

5-30-13 Daily Update

Parents,

Bike Hike.  Is tomorrow!  The kids and teachers are all excited.  It is supposed to be warm and muggy, but hopefully no rain until the evening.  Here are some things to do for Friday:

1) apply mosquito/tick spray
2) apply sun screen
3) inflate bike tires
4)  Put on bike helmet and make sure it is adjusted properly (see attached image)
5)  Check that gears, handle bars, and brakes on bike function properly.
6)  Water bottle cage for bike and water bottle (bottles can't be held or dangled from the bike by straps)
7)  Dress your child comfortably for the heat.

I will send a separate e-mail reminding you and your child how they are getting home tomorrow.  If there are any changes in this, please call the school.  We have a lot of pick-ups on that day and it will be a little chaotic, so please communicate with our secretaries about your plans if they need to change.  Thank you!

Party.  See your child's take home folder for more information about this:

Science News

As we wind down the school year in Science, we are finishing with a unit on Weather.  We have been watching the weather each day to practice reading weather maps in order ro to better understand weather concepts.  The test over weather is next Thursday.  The test is over Ch. 1 and Ch. 3 in the book.  A practice test can be taken on Moodle here.

Students can also earn extra credit in Science by building one of the following weather instruments: wind vane, anemometor, hygrometer, or rain gauge.  Check this site for some design ideas.

Students will also have a two weather puzzles that can be completed for extra credit.

5-17-13 Daily Updates

Parents,

Mystery solved!  Today we culminated a very fun mystery unit by solving "The Mystery of the Baseball Diamond."  The student deciphered codes, solved riddles, unscrambled puzzles and followed clues to find the diamond.  Ask your child about it.

Behavior.  Behavior and responsibility was not very good overall this week.  Of course, this may not apply to your child individually. (See ClassDojo for more information on this.) Still, I would appreciate it if you could please remind your child that the expectations for the last two weeks of school are the same as for the rest of the school year.  It is important to remember to complete homework, follow directions, listen, and be kind to one another each day.

Reminders:

  • Fun Fest permission slip ( Needed from: Logan, Emily, Jasmine, Jordon, Andy)
  • Bike Hike Permission slip is due (Needed from: Emily)
  • Make sure your child has a well-fitted bike helmet before Bike Hike.

5-15-13 Daily Update

Parents,

Forms to be returned.  I have attached some of the forms that need to be returned to school for the Fun Fest Day and for Bike Hike.  Please return these this week if possible.  Thank you.

End of year expectations.  As the the end of the year approaches, teachers and students must contend with the inevitable spread of "spring fever."  While many students are involved in spring sports and activities, it is important to stress with your child that their schoolwork still needs to take priority.  You can help send this message to your child by setting aside time each evening for homework to be completed. I reminded students today that fun, non-academic activities such as Fun Fest, Talent Show, Bike Hike, or other fun events can be taken away if a child is not consistently not completing their school work.  You can help your child by structuring your their time and giving them encouragement and reminders that are needed to get their work complete.

Reminders:

  • FTMS Orientation is Thursday from 7-8 PM
  • Fun Fest permission slip
  • Bike Hike Permission slip is due
  • Blue survey forms are due

In Science today we learned about how a cloud forms.  To demonstrate this we made a cloud in a bottle.  Since its a movie, I posted a video of this on the website.  Check it out!

Art Fair.  This is Saturday at the high school.  Come check out your child's artwork and many other great pieces from around the school district.
