OAA is next week - Please read

Dear parents,

The week of the State of Ohio 4th Grade Achievement Test has arrived.  The tests will be given next week on Monday, April 30 (Reading) and Wednesday, May 2 (Math).

The students will have 2-1/2 hours to complete each test. Our lunch and specials schedule have been adjusted to be sure the students have this much time for each day's testing.

Here are some suggestions for having your child prepared for each day's testing:

  1. Be sure that your child gets plenty of rest each night before the testing.
  2. The night before each test, please go over some of the practice materials that were sent home.  An easy review option is to use the link below which has practice tests for your child to complete.

http://portal.success-ode-state-oh-us.info/

  1. In the morning, be sure your child has a healthy, nourishing breakfast.
  2. Try to send your child off to school with a positive word encouraging him/her to try their best.
  3. Many parents have also sent a letter of encouragement for their child to open before the tests. (if am still missing these from 5 parents)
  4. It is very important that the students arrive to school on time.  Test directions will begin promptly at 8:50 a.m.  Testing will begin immediately after directions have been explained.  The class should not be interrupted after 8:50 a.m.
  5. Be sure your child has plenty of sharp No. 2 pencils to use.  Mechanical pencils are not allowed.
  6. The child should bring a HEALTHY snack to enjoy during the break we take during the testing.
  7. Each child is allowed and encouraged to have a water bottle at their desk to use when they are thirsty.

Sincerely,

The Fourth Grade Teachers

2-23-13 Daily Update

Parents,

Bike Hike.  Our 4th grade Bike Hike to Oak Openings is about 5 weeks away.  Surveying the class, about two-thirds said they had a properly fitted helmet.  All students are expected to wear a helmet on the Bike Hike, and there are no exceptions to this rule.  It is recommended that all helmets have a sticker that says it meets standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and should be the right size for your child.  If your child does not have and cannot afford a bike or helmet, please let me know and I will make arrangements to provide one or both for your child.  Also, when we have a nice spring day (today is not a good example), encourage your child to get off of the computer or game system and take their bike for a ride.  Better yet, take a ride as a family.

Snacks.  We are all out again.

Last Book Order.  These are due on Friday or Saturday if ordered online.

4-23-13 Daily Update

Parents,

Students are really working hard here at school.  Thank you for continuing to encourage your child at home.

Dress code.  Parents, just a couple reminders about dress code expectations.  As the weather has gotten warmer, some students are wearing some outfits that are not following the dress code.  We have made an attempt to simply remind the child about expectations as a warning, but, particularly with the girls, some are still having trouble dressing within the rules.    Shorts should be long enough so that if a child lets their hands down at their sides, it should be longer than their finger tips.  High heeled shoes or boots are not allowed.  Straps on tops should be 3 fingers wide - no "spaghetti" straps.  We appreciate your help with this.

4-22-13 Daily Update

Parents,

Last week a letter was sent home asking you for a favor.  We are asking all parents to write a short letter or note encouraging your child to do their best on the Ohio Achievement Assessments (OAA) that they will take next week.  On the morning of the Reading OAA on Monday and Math OAA on Wednesday, students will open this letter before we begin.  It is amazing what a positive impact a small thing like a letter from home has on your child's attitude before beginning.  I always enjoy watching the smiles on the children's faces as they read these.  These can be just a short handwritten or typed note placed in an envelope with your child's name on it.  I would appreciate it if you could have these to me by this Friday, that way I can prepare notes for students who don't receive one.

Art month theme.  The door design award went to Mrs. Ponstler's room.
