Parents,
Your child should show you their mid quarter report in their take home folder this weekend. Please sign and return the paper by Monday or Tuesday.
This week we worked on writing a "Family Memory" story. For the first time, we also logged in to the students' google accounts to type them using the google docs word processor. They are doing a really nice job with this. These documents will now be accessible from home. Later on, we may do some projects that we might be able to finish typing or researching from home.
A handful of students have still not mastered basic addition facts when tested using the Math Facts in a Flash program. Both addition and subtraction need to be mastered no later than the end of the quarter. Starting on Monday, I will be keeping in students during recess who have not yet passed addition in order to practice. If your child received a sign and return sheet of addition facts, then they need to be memorizing these facts at home with you. Parents, I need your help with this. We will not be taking valuable class time to memorize facts - these need to be reviewed at home. We are now starting Topic 2 - Addition and Subtraction. Students who do not have fast recall of their facts will really struggle with completion of these problems.
Need a way to practice facts with your child?
Go to the Home Connect link.
Click the tab for Math.
Then the Math Facts in a Flash Tab.
Click "Start Practicing."
There are also many games and math fact printables on Moodle:Math
Have a great weekend!
Reminders:
- Last chance to send in any donations for "Backyard BBQ" theme for basket raffle. We have a cooking pot, some utensils, spices, and BBQ sauce so far.
- The Whitehouse Primary Birthday Bash is Friday, October 5 from 5-9 PM. As I understand it, his is going to be a carnival-like event at school with lots of fun activities (laser tag, bounce houses, games etc...). It should be a great time!
- Wednesday is the trip to the Canal and Mill at Providence Metropark. Student can earn extra credit in Social Studies if they dress in any kind of "Pioneer"-style clothing. (Think: flannel shirts, jeans, rope belts, suspenders, floppy hats, bandanas, dresses, bonnets, etc...). This really adds to the fun of the experience as we imagining living in the 1800's.
- Sign and return midterm by Tuesday.
